Let's Banish "Beauty is Pain" Once and For All

Let's Banish "Beauty is Pain" Once and For All

We’ve all heard the expressions “Beauty is Pain” and “No Pain, No Gain". From ancient Chinese foot-binding and dimple machines to today’s Kardashian-endorsed Corset Diet and the growing popularity of 5-inch stilettos, there are many examples of beauty regimens that are needlessly putting a woman’s health and well-being at risk. We here at UKIES believe it’s high time to banish the archaic notion that a woman must suffer to be beautiful.

Comfort is IN and Pain is OUT.

Stilettos, schmilettos. Confidence is truly the most beautiful thing a woman can wear. It’s sounds like such a cliché but study after study shows that the best way to snag a guy is to hold his gaze for a few seconds and flash him a genuine smile! And how are you supposed to do that when your discomfort from wearing an overly tight corset or painful heels is written all over your face and posture? Inspirational talk show host Ellen DeGeneres said it best: “Beauty is about being comfortable in your own skin. It's about knowing and accepting who you are.”

It’s no secret that most women teeter around in dangerously high heels just to please their boyfriends or husbands but did you know that a man is more likely to notice your hair and your smile first? [1] Maintaining long locks may be difficult but it’s pain-free. And a beautiful smile is always sexy. Don’t take our word for it? Then take a cue from bombshell Marilyn Monroe who believed “a smile is the best makeup any girl can wear.”

Despite the rise of flats and sneakers on the runway and in fashion spreads, high heels simply aren’t going anywhere. Heels have long been associated with social status, sexuality and power. But why must they be so painful? That’s what we set out to solve when we created UKIES. We wanted to make heels that were as stylish and sexy as they were comfortable.

Just how did we create the Holy Grail of heels? First, we wanted our heels to have a reasonable height – none of the UKIES heels are higher than 3.5 inches. Then we added an antimicrobial, moisture wicking lining to keep your feet odorless and dry. We also added slip-resistant strips on the outer sole to make sure you don’t lose your balance. And finally, we created our patented nanoGel™ insoles, our secret weapon against high heel discomfort, so you can wear your heels from AM to PM, or desk to dinner (read more about the technology inside our heels here).

Our manifesto summarizes our beauty philosophy - an empowering mission statement that we believe all women can get behind:

In the end, we created UKIES so that women no longer have to choose between style and comfort. You can wear our heels knowing that you will always have both. That is our promise to you.
