Accessories can make or break even the best outfit, so the pressure is on to make smart choices when pairing shoes, belts, and handbags.
Once upon a time there were strict rules in place when it came to your accessories and how to match them. This was a bygone era, where alligator accessories were considered ‘casual’ and worn for ‘sporty’ occasions.
Shoes and bags were required to be at the very least the same color and ideally the same material, and that material was usually leather or an exotic skin that is no longer commonly available. While the women of past generations were certainly elegant, their rules for accessories are too strict for the modern women.
Shoes, Handbags, and Belts are the foundations of our accessory wardrobes. So how should we coordinate them in 2018?
Some rules stand the test of time and this first one has been around for decades. Match dark accessories with dark accessories and light with light. In 2018 they don’t have to be the same color, but generally match bright with neutrals. E.g. Yellow could go with white, pink could go with beige, maroon with black etc.
This is another classic rule of thumb, but in 2018 many women choose to ignore the color wheel and deliberately choose colors that ‘clash’. So-called ‘millennial pink’ is an example of a color that is being paired in combinations not previously seen, while neon is increasingly being paired with just about everything.
A few years ago metallic, glitter and sparkles were for cocktail and black tie attire only. But this is another rule that has been thrown out the door. Metallic shoes like the Leona Pewter Mirror are now the perfect match to denim, and even sportswear. Metallic shoes can go with backpacks and casual belts, and metallic, glittery bags are being seen paired with sneakers.
More than ever, fashion in 2018 is about having fun, so mix and match to find the combinations that work for you.
